Saravanan Sivakumar (born 23 JUL 1975), is the eldest son
of renowned veteran Tamil actor ‘Sivakumar’. He went to
St. Bede's School at Chennai. He had his B.com from Loyola
College.
Though he got few chances to act on films by his father’s
contacts, he denied those offers .He was not interested in
acting but was determined to create his own identity in life.
He didn’t want to use his father’s identity for career.
He got chance to work in film ‘AASAI (1995)’ but he denied it.
Then this film was acted by an actor, after which he had a bright
career and turned to be a profitable actor. He was none other than
‘Thala AJITH KUMAR’.
Then he worked for few months in the garment industry. He didn’t reveal the truth that he was the son of actor sivakumar. But he was caught.
Then finally debuted on director VASANTH’s movie “Nerrukku Ner”
Co –stared by “Thalapathy VIJAY”.
Director Mani rathnam conferred the name 'SURIYA' to him. Though this film turned to be a success but was not of his own. Poovellam Kettuppar,which was his first film with his future wife Jyothika was also a hit romantic movie.Then followed by few unsuccessful films he got a chance to prove himself as a class actor in Nandha,which also made him to win his 1st Tamil Nadu State Award-Best Actor.
With 3 average films, he took another turn from his usual carrer as a class cop with the collaboration of Goutham Vasudev Menon in Kaakha Kaakha,with Jyothika as co-star. Which made Suriya a profitable actor and created a fan base.
Critic's started comparing him with Ajith & Vijay.
Following another crucial movie Pithamagan ,which bagged him his 1st Filmfare Award.
Then after a average film with director Bala, he got his another carrer breakthrough with director A R Murugadoss in Gajini. Which proved as a hardworking and an exceptional actor.it also increased fame of Suriya beyond Tamil Nadu and raised his market.This film also bagged him another Tamil Nadu State Award and also increased his fan base overseas.
Then released Aaru,directed by director Hari ,made Suriya a mass hero and also was his 1st combo with him.After another movie June R, he acted for his relatives production company STUDIO GREEN,in Sillunu Oru Kaadhal.
